XBit 1.0.6 Released

August 2006!? Wow. That's the date of the last post announcing the release of XBit 1.0.5. I guess that means it was overdue for an update then. Well, it's available now from the ZenVilla home page.

What's new you ask? This version will properly display files that are saved out of the Leopard version of Apple Mail. I've also moved the whole project over from Mac OS X 10.2 to 10.5 so that I can use the latest and greatest tools, by which I mean, Xcode and TextMate. That has the unfortunate side effect of causing XBit to require 10.5 at this point. I haven't really looked at enabling support for 10.4 and I'm not sure if I will bother with that since the main change in this release has to do with 10.5 anyway. Version 1.0.5 will still work fine for anyone who isn't on Apple's latest and greatest. Oh yes, and it's a Universal Binary now!

So here's to timely updates.

XBit 1.0.5 Released

There’s a new minor update to XBit available here. It updates the scripts used to access the TidBITS FTP server so that they should be pretty much “future proof” from here on out.

XBit 1.0.3 Released

This release addresses the problem with registration codes under Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). If you haven’t yet updated to Tiger there is no rush for you to install this release but please do so before submitting new bugs. Go here to download it.

Tiger Bugs

There have been reports that XBit is no longer recognizing registration codes after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and we just wanted to let everyone know that we’re hoping to address this bug with an updated version of XBit as soon as possible. Hopefully this weekend if all goes well.

In the meantime, please continue to use XBit in unregistered mode with a clear and guilt free conscience! Unless, of course, you haven’t registered. In that case, we hope you feel at least a slight twinge of guilt.

Tiger Compatibility

Now that Tiger is upon us you might be wondering if XBit will need an update or not. Unfortunately, we can’t yet provide that information as we do not yet have access to Tiger. Hopefully this week will see us with Tiger in our hot little hands and any conflicts or problems addressed shortly thereafter. In the interim, we suggest making a backup of the data folder, located here…

“~/Library/Application Support/XBit”

The easiest way to do this is to right click on the folder and select “Create Archive of XBit” from the resulting contextual menu.

Please report any Tiger related problems to bugs at this domain.
